There are some who were born to have a girlfriend, a boyfriend, a husband or wife...some were born to have children...some were born just to work a job, some were born to just party.......to them that is their passion...and then there are US who were born to create. WE have no other passion...it is what drives us to create or destroy. Usually we die desolate, alone, despaired and broke. WE know that it is not important who we are but WHAT WE ARE. It is that passion that defines US. Now, I, James D. Watkins, invite you to view 2 short videos on part of my passion. They are called 'HEAVEN'S PASSION' part 1 and part 2 and they are below. DOUG HENNING
Magician, producer, creator & theme-park designer
1947-2000
All the above describes Doug Henning. Growing up, he and Mark Wilson were the faces of magic to me. They enchanted and mystified a generation of magicians, myself included. Mr. Doug Henning holds a special place in my memory and it's not just because of magic but of a project he was working on until his untimely death in 2000. Doug was born in Ontario, Canada and he studied and started magic at a young age. His first breakout show was called SPELLBOUND and it broke box office records across Canada. He and his producers then moved the show to BROADWAY where it was renamed to MAGIC MAN and it ran for 4 years on BROADWAY. He then produced and starred in countless television specials as well as producing the BROADWAY hit 'MERLIN'. Doug Henning became involved in New Age Mysticism and he had plans to erect a New Age-type theme-park and this is where I find the parallel between him and I. Not the New Age Mysticism stuff but the idea and plans to build my very own theme-park. My theme-park will be centered around the bible and I would use the highest and latest special-effects to illustrate what I have in mind. Mr. Doug Henning's theme-park was going to be called VEDA LAND and that means 'knowledge of all the laws of nature'. VEDA LAND was going to include the following rides and attractions; MAGIC FLYING CHARIOT RIDE, CORRIDOR OF TIME RIDE, Travelling into the molecular structure of a rose attraction, buildings that would appear to levitate over water and among other ideas. Another striking similiarity is the propose location for VEDA LAND; Near Niagara Falls and that's exactly where I want to build my theme-park.
Niagara Falls is pure magic and might and I always thought it would be great to have an indoor theme-park there. Even the great HARRY HOUDINI performed shows there and there was even a HARRY HOUDINI exhibit located on Clifton Hills which is right at the falls. Apparently I wasn't the only one who thought so because Doug Henning had the same idea. I don't know whether VEDA LAND will ever be built but at least Doug Henning had a dream for one.
