MOTHER OF INVENTION
One thousand and ninety three patents. That's how many Thomas Edison received during his career. Does that mean I should respect and revere him? No, it does not. Thomas Edison has been referenced to a certain deceased APPLE CEO in that both were supposedly 'geniuses' and 'innovative' and while I call BULL on those claims and assumptions, I do admire Thomas Edison in his tenacity and persistence on some of his inventions, but it doesn't change the fact that he was a corporate bully that tried to stifle and brutally stop others from creating and inventing. Remember those patents I mentioned at the top of this paragraph? Well the majority of those patents were not Thomas Edison's. They were from the people who worked for Edison and he simply took over or bought out the true creators and inventors of a particular idea, invention and patent. Edison was also a liar and a cheat. Case in point - NIKOLA TESLA. Tesla ( a REAL genius) was hired by Edison to configure an electrical issue so that Edison could mass produce it and sell it. Tesla was promised by Edison a certain amount of money for the completion of said project and when he was finished he went to Edison for his promised payment, but Edison reneged on that promise and didn't pay Tesla. Tesla quit and while it was tough for him to get the financial backing he needed, he still out-created Thomas Edison and his AC(alternate current) opened doors for electricity and beyond. The mother of invention came in to play for NIKOLA TESLA.
The same can be said of the movie industry. Thomas Edison had a monopoly on the patents for the equipment used on the Nickeledeons and film cameras that were being used in film parlors in the early 1900's in the New York and New Jersey area. He formed a company called the Motion Pictures Patent Company (also known as the Edison Trust) and the 'Trust' used intimidation and threats to force independent filmmakers to abide by the rules set-forth. Alot of independent and organized filmmakers balked at doing that and so many of them left New York and ventured to Florida and California and that is the main reason the film industry is set in California and not in New York. One of those pioneer filmmakers was Carl Laemmle, the future founder of Universal Studios. Despite it origins in New York, Universal Studios immediately set its focus in the Hollywood area of California. Once again, the mother of invention intervene and because of that we have the film enterprise based in California, instead of the East Coast. When your back is to the wall and you are cornered in, just use the mother of invention and think outside the box and in turn, who knows, you may create an industry or a new way of doing things. The mother of invention is never born within the masses and it will never be.
