How many people do you know go to Hollywood to try and be famous? How many of those same people are just a waste of time? I've come across many of actors, writers, singers, dancers, models and directors who are exactly that - a waste of time. They don't read their scripts, they don't write down dates, they don't like rehearsing, they don't take the time to read contracts, BUT YET they expect to get paid top dollar. They migrate to the west coast, LaLa Land, Los Angeles, Hollywood in their hopes of becoming a household name and yet they have yet to master the basics.
I've learned of a different type of migration. They call it Hollywood East and it's where film production would be conceived somewhere on the east coast or just east of Hollywood. (actually, film production had its roots in NEW YORK CITY anyway but that makes for another discussion). Now, these actors and whomever wants to be in the business, don't have to move to Los Angeles because Hollywood movies would be shot right in their backyard. Or so they say. I relocated to central Florida from Rochester, N.Y. for a totally different and selfish reasons (ha, ha). The theme-park studios of Walt Disney World and Universal Studios was supposed to herald in this great Hollywood East iniative. What happened? What will those waste-of-time actors, writers, dancers, producers, models and directors ever do now? Will they still make that trek to the west coast? Will cities ever do film production even if they're not on the west coast? Does it really matter where you are located just as long you create and are able to distribute your work? Hollywood is just a name. Central Florida adopted that name so it could've have its dreams come true. This Hollywood dream could apply to any city but at least Central Florida had capable and functioning studios behind it. HOLLYWOOD EAST; THE MOVIE DREAMS OF CENTRAL FLORIDA takes a candid and critical look at central Florida's movie dreams.
